( The day had started out as one for errands -- getting things for food they would need, one of his unscheduled visits to Tyr to make sure there wasn't anything God-related that he missed. Instead, going into town Emil's greeted by a dog. A real, live dog. Not infected, furry, smaller than he's accustomed to. Likely someone's familiar run astray.
Then there's another, then a cat. All varied in size and type, none of which seemed to dissipate after any allotted time as far as he could tell. At least in this instance, no natives seem to be out and on the prowl to butcher and wave the poor creatures in the streets, but that's not the only reason he has an urge to catch one. A cat, not a dog. He's still not sure of those things yet.
After a few hours attempting to catch one, graceless when not very concerned by the fact that some animals seemed to have requests, he receives a text from Lalli. A vague memory floats through his mind at the implication. He did ask for exactly this for a birthday gift, after all, even if mostly in jest. )
Is there really a cat in there ? You took a picture, right?
( Not just because he'd like confirmation that what is being hinted at is true, but also so he can see the blessed face and markings of the angel they're now saddled with.
It also means he doesn't have to brave falling out of this tree he's made an attempt to climb to snag one for himself. )
( He can't be disappointed in the lack of a visual aide when there's a cat waiting for him about thirty minutes away from where he is right now. Goodbye tree cat, enjoy living your life among the leaves.
A few minutes into his brisk walk he discovers that Lalli's given it a half name, which is also adding an additional layer of happiness to the whole situation. He can't remember the last time he touched a cat -- not that he was obsessive over them, but they were such a constant presence everywhere back home that it's so strange to think it's been months since he's even seen one. Not to mention that Lalli remembered, put in the effort to capture one when it wasn't even so serious, and he's sure Lalli isn't so fond of them.
There isn't a reply on his end for quite some time, but one eventually comes in the form of a picture. He's discovered the small thing, as well as a dead and plated mouse that's been left as an offering (which caused a confusing mix of disgust and endearment, though mostly the former). The sex of it isn't obvious, and he's not about to move the sleepy creature from the deep nest its made into the rug at the foot of their bed. The ears, currently too big for its kitten head, are the only real indication it's there as it blends in with the texture and colours so well. )
It's so small( The war he's fighting within himself to not pick it up right this instant is childish, but so, so difficult. )
( For as hard as it might be for Emil to read a room at times, he's certainly picking up the hints being presented to him. The messages are read in between Emil picking up the small mass, listening to its small and surprised cry while his heart simply melts. It's -- she's, on further inspection -- so small and vulnerable, soft and entirely too precious to even be real...and yet. It's hard to imagine even feeling so endeared to his family cats at any point in time, but maybe because this is much more personal and his, even if jointly owned.
He's sitting cross-legged on the floor and avoiding watching her at the time of his reply, as little Nukkapallo has taken to sniffing that dead mouse of hers. It's a name he'll have to learn to pronounce correctly, even if he's not aware at the moment. )
Will you get mad if she sleeps on the bed?( There's room, but wonders if there will be any cat v. cat territorial disputes. And then if so, which side he should take in the matter. )
( His eyes glance over at Nukka -- much easier to say in his mind than the full thing -- and she's not actually eating the mouse that has been delivered to her, instead has it by the tail and is dragging it before stopping to offer it a few whaps in between pauses.
Disturbing. She's redirected back into the rug with wide eyes; the mouse will be taken care of...later. )
( The topic of the conversation has slowly turned around to face him, clumsily losing footing in the thick strands halfway through. She wiggles as if she's going to attempt to pounce, but nervously wonders if she can win against this big thing that's been redirecting her in her new landscape.
Lalli receives a recorded video of a few of these tiny shimmies before she makes a sloppy run to make a pounce at Emil's lowered hand; this extension of him is a much more manageable opponent. It ends with a vaguely dark screen as she finds the cuff, teeth attempting to clamp down on the glowing jewel in the middle. There's a light laugh in the background, obscured by the rustling sound of her fur close to the device.
( Unaware of the sudden gayness he's instilled in Lalli, Emil's concern focuses on Nukka's sudden multipurpose existence. )
